Bus to Wick, Thurso High Street, 1965

When I made my trip in 1965 the only way that I could efficiently cover the railway branches to both Thurso and Wick was to catch a bus to Wick on arrival to Thurso. This is the bus that I caught, and it had a colourful history. It started life as a wartime purchase by London Transport in 1945. It was sold in 1952 to the Western Scottish bus company who gave it a new body, and then sold it on to Highland Omnibuses in 1963. In 1965 it was a venerable 20 years old! High Street is now effectively a pedestrianised area https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5086181 with no buses. Mackay & Sons butchers, seen to the left of the bus, were still in business in 2019.
