This fairly short section of dual carriageway formed what is essentially a by-pass for the Lansdowne area of the town, connecting the main A338 arterial road and replacing a gyratory system near the railway station (see Image). The telecoms box on the right was originally dark green, as you would expect. Many of them around Bournemouth were painted overnight, about 15 years ago, in this blue-and-blue style by a phantom painter, who seemed to restrict himeslf to British Telecom's boxes. Despite the protestations of BT in the local paper, they have never seen the need to restore the original colour, and I don't believe the offender was ever caught (maybe never pursued). Update: In June 2008, the boxes were all restored to their original dark green!
