The maps show this site as a chapel, which now looks more like a cairn after centuries of farming have smoothed the features down. It dates back to the 8th century AD, when St Maelrubha (Malruva) founded monastic settlements on Islay. The Cill Ronain site was one of the township chapels that were serviced from a central monastery. In this case, the central site was likely to be Nave Island.
