The medieval church on this site burned down in 1729, the present church dates from the 18th century and restored in 1837-38 by George Wightwick for Francis, Earl of Godolphin. The church is Grade II* listed, see: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1207743
