Opened in 1895 by the Glasgow Central Railway, part of the Caledonian Railway, on the line from Rutherglen via Glasgow Central to Maryhill (Central), this station closed in 1964. Looking south east on Trongate at the site of the street-level building. The line was electrified and reopened in 1979, and trains below can be clearly heard.
