St Joseph's chapel pre-dates the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1832. Built in 1794 on land gifted by the Anglican landlord and a member of the West Indies slave owning family, Alexander Stewart, it is one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Ulster. http://www.poyntzpass.co.uk/Before_I_Forget/2000_No_8/Acton_Parish_Church_Poyntzpass.pdf
