The rough ground below Mow Cop edge was once the route of the short lived early 19th century Congleton Railway carrying coal from Stonetrough Colliery to the edge of Congleton. The low embankment once carried iron oval bar rails set on stone sleeper blocks. These sleeper blocks can still be seen in some local walls.
