My second dead ewe of the day I'm afraid. Like the other her eyes are gone and some scavenger has taken a few bites and tugs at various parts of her. We all know farmers have to report such deaths, and also ensure that such fallen stock are removed from fields promptly, reported and removed correctly. In my experience I see that farmers may take a more worldly view and with their massively busy schedules sometimes miss such losses. Food for local Buzzards, Red Kites, Crows, Magpies, Jays, foxes, Badgers etc etc I suppose. Any farmer will tell you that sheep are always looking for new ways to kill themselves, as one put it to me once, citing Mastitis as a chief killer at this time of year, he explained how a ewe will go down with it one evening and be dead by the next morning.....
