Metal plate attached to stone post by the A303, in parish of MERE (SALISBURY District), East of town; West of turning to Burton, on embankment behind Local Services sign, on South side of road. Wincanton iron plate, erected by the Wincanton turnpike trust in the 18th century. Inscription reads:- Wincanton 8 Hindon 6 Carved benchmark front top centre and rivet on top. Grade II listed.
