Millennium Milepost at Bury Bridge

One of the 1000 cast iron mileposts funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland to mark the creation of the National Cycle Network. This one, on Sustrans Route 6, is situated next to the pedestrian/cyclist underpass at Bury Bridge. It is an example of the first of the four designs of mileposts that were commissioned. Designed by John Mills, it is entitled "The Fossil Tree" and takes the form of an abstract tree with relief imagery of fossils. These depict the passage of time, from early primitive creatures to the ultimate demise of fossil fuel-driven technology.
