Built circa 1585 in the Dutch Renaissance manner, the front was raised and re-fenestrated in the later C18 century. The building became the Naval Bank in 1902 and the listing by English Heritage from 1952 indicates the building was being used by Barclays Bank. The building is listed as Grade II*. At the time of photographing the shop was vacant but several businesses occupy the rest of the building. The plaque on one of the central former loggia pillars states the building was once home to Ann Ball who on 19th July 1586 married Sir Thomas Bodley, founder of the Bodleian Library.
