The former Garth Youth Hostel was presented to the Scottish Youth Hostels Association in 1951 by Mrs E. Mackenzie Anderson in memory of her son, Lt. Ian Mackenzie Anderson, R.N., and of the officers and men of H.M. Submarine Odin, lost in battle in the Gulf of Taranto, 13th June 1940. Architect: Andrew Heiton. c 1838, with extensive addition by Andrew Heiton Jr. in same style c. 1880.
