Opened in 1839 by the Newcastle & North Shields Railway, the line was later extended to the coast via Tynemouth. It was converted to Metro operation in 1982. View north east towards Tynemouth. The station once had an overall roof which was removed in the 1960s, and these canopies date from c.2012.
