When I used to come fishing in this area as a child this reed bed was not here. I think it has been established due to the fact that the water level is much lower these days. The water used to be faster flowing and this may have prevented the reeds from growing. Water levels in the whole area are generally much lower than they used to be due to increased extraction as large scale development has occurred.
