Grade II* Listed house on the site of Abbot of Abbotsbury's town house. Listed as 17th century the Visit Dorset website dates the building back to the 16th century and as one of the oldest buildings in the High Street. In 1685 Judge Jeffreys came to Dorchester and lodged at 6 High West Street. Judge Jeffreys is said to have a secret passage from his lodgings to the Oak Room and in July 2014 such a network of tunnels were rediscovered underneath Antelope Walk and there’s an obvious route from High West Street, to directly underneath the old court room. Concern was raised late in 2018 that the former pizza restaurant (that replaced a tea shop) was 'deteriorating and falling to pieces' but conversion to a Turkish restaurant seems to have halted further deterioration. A postcard from the 1910s shows it as 'Groves, the County Clothing and Outfitting Stores'.
