Ewes with lambs in pastures at Low Oxque. At this time in 2018 the weather was dubbed the 'beast from the east' with daytime temperatures not exceeding zero centigrade and with newborn lambs having to be kept in barns, but a year later the temperature is around 17C and lambs are already skipping around the fields. Does this signify a happy Yorkshire farmer? Across the hidden Swale rises How Hill, one of at least three with that name in Swaledale, and all have some evidence of old settlement or as defended sites.
