"Talhaiarn" was the bardic name of John Jones, a Welsh poet and architect. He was born at the Harp Inn in Llanfair Talhaearn. The stone slab in front of the monument is inscribed with englynion (verses in strict meter) by another Welsh poet, Islwyn (William Thomas) and also a memorial to Thomas Jones, Talhaiarn's youngest brother.
