Carved stone post by the B1383 (was A11), in parish of NEWPORT (UTTLESFORD District), High Street junction with Elephant Green and Belmont Hill, opposite White Horse Lane, on verge by notice board, on West side of road. Erected by the Hockerill turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- LONDON 37 CAMBRIDGE 17 NEWMARKET 22 Essex HER.
