For northbound walkers on the trail, this is the beginning of the climb up Hambledon Hill. The surface of this track is quite dreadful. Side to side it is a muddy morass, and impossible to make progress upon, without clinging to the wire fence. It becomes steeper in gradient further on, and more difficult to negotiate.
