The steps leading up to St Mary's Church give access from the High Street. Construction of the church started in 1490 to replace an earlier dilapidated building but was not completed until 1550. There was a major restoration carried out between 1853 and 1856 by Sir George Gilbert Scott, and further work has been carried out since. It is grade I listed.
