The bridge across Mill Lane carried the former railway between Market Drayton and Audlem. This view is from the east. The Nantwich and Market Drayton Railway opened on 20 October 1863, operated by the Great Western Railway, and fully absorbed by it in 1897. After fifteen years in British Railways, the line was closed to passengers on 9 September 1963. Freight traffic continued until 1967.
