Carved stone post by the A24, in parish of CLAPHAM (LAMBETH District), Clapham Common, South Side, 100m North of junction with Rookery Road, set back in slabs behind railings, on West side of road. Surrey limestone pillar, erected by the Epsom, Ewell, Tooting etc turnpike trust in the 18th century. Inscription reads:- : ROYAL / EXCHANGE / 4½ / MILES : : WHITEHALL / 4 / MILES : : ROYAL / EXCHANGE / 4½ / MILES : Grade II Listed by Historic England, List Entry Number: 1475098 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1475098 Milestone Society National ID: SY_LA04
