Scrapyard at Stansted, 1960

There were more than 130 scrap aircraft at this site, scattered over a good many acres, so the site was quite a feature of the landscape. The grid reference I've suggested is necessarily approximate, but two large WW2 hangars nearby are visible in other photos I took at the time, and are identifiable on older maps and aerial photographs. Notice the two young lads near the right-hand margin. Adventure playgrounds had yet to be invented - being young in those days was a lot more fun!
