A number of outlying farms were built in Swine parish by the Micklethwaite family after inclosure between the 1650s and about 1735. Many of the farmhouses along with some in the village were rebuilt by the Crown Estate in the 19th century, who also built tied cottages such as these on Swine Road for people employed on the farms.
