From before World War II until around 1960 this building on the corner of Leighton Avenue (left) and Pall Mall (right) housed Caedmon House School which I attended between 1949-54. Progressive, even by the standards of those times, it was not; but it produced generations of pupils who by the time they were ten had reached high standards of literacy and numeracy. After the school closed the building went through many uses and is today divided into flats.
