Site of the Scotland Street Goods and Mineral Station, a coal depot, this is now part of a park hidden away below the New Town. The tunnel portal beyond the MUGA is the Scotland Street Tunnel which runs beneath the centre of Edinburgh to a long forgotten destroyed station on the site of part of Waverley Station and the neighbouring shopping mall. This line only operated for a few years in the mid 19th century and used cables and a stationary steam engine to pull wagons up through the tunnel to here. The more conventional railway from the north, through Rodney Street Tunnel finally closed in 1967. Briefly this was the way to Fife and the north, connecting the city centre with Newhaven and ferries to Burntisland in Fife.
