This was the HQ of Johnson's Dyers and Cleaners in Mildmay Road off Stanley Road in Bootle. The origins of the drycleaning business go back to 1817 when Johnson Brothers started in business in Liverpool as silk dyers. In 1920, Johnson Brothers joined forces with two drycleaning companies, Jas Smith & Son and Flinn & Son Ltd of Brighton and "Johnson's the Cleaners" was born. The firm, which is now the country’s biggest dry-cleaning operation, left its Bootle HQ for new premises in Prescot earlier this year. Plans have been approved for the conversion of the building to 82 apartments with retail premises on the ground floor.
