A huge 44-storey block of more than 540 flats is being built opposite East Croydon Station, after planning permission was given for work to start on the vacant former Essex House site in November 2017. The new double-tower skyscraper, which has structures of 44 and 38 storeys, will contain 546 flats as well as ground-floor shops and offices. Croydon already has one building of 44 storeys and plans have been approved for another of 68 storeys.
