The Russian bulk carrier Kuzma Minin was driven onto Gyllyngvase Beach in the early hours of 18th December 2018 when southerly storm force winds caused it to drag its anchor. A rescue operation was launched by the coastguards, RNLI and Falmouth Harbourmaster and harbour tugs and a tug from Fowey were successful in re-floating the vessel on the high tide.
