A view from the top of a Bronze Age burial mound looking towards another one just visible in the shade in the centre of the picture. Other ones are nearby around this recreation ground and in a small bit of adjacent woodland. This was also the site of Royalist positions in the first Battle of Newbury during the English Civil War. The stone in the foreground is on top of a tumulus and is inscribed "peace" with a date 1897 and some other writing which is too worn to make out apart from something about a "sacred spot".
