Commissioned to celebrate the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games, the Spirit of Friendship Festival and Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee. One of the UK's largest bronze sporting sculptures; The Runner by Colin Spofforth reaches 30ft high and weighs 7 tonnes. It was installed in April 2002 at the City of Manchester Stadium. http://www.colinspofforth.com/projects/index.php?s=the-runner Now that the stadium was become the Etihad Spofforth's sculpture seems as if it has been tucked away in a corner but at least it has survived unlike the other Commonwealth Games reminder, the B of the Bang https://www.geograph.org.uk/snippet/12897
