An information board at the start of the path to The Biggen explains that this moated site rich in wildlife dates from the 12th or 13th century and was the site of one of the four manors which owned land around Duxford until the 19th century. “Although there are few visible remains,” it continues, “these ancient earthworks are deemed to be of national importance and are protected by Historic England.”
