This station was opened in 1934 by the London Midland & Scottish Railway in the rather plain style favoured by the company at a number of new stations it opened on the former London Tilbury & Southend line in the 1930s. This particular station replaced an inconveniently situated station about half a mile to the east. It is well looked after by C2C, its present owners, even to the extent that the clock is telling the correct time.
