Skelton's village hall, which opened in 1923. It was financed by Frederick Toppin (a New York businessman) in memory of his father John Castlehow Toppin, a farmer who was involved in the local government of Cumberland (information from the Cumberland & Westmorland Herald, 29.03.2003 http://www.cwherald.com/a/archive/early-days-of-village-hall-recalled.248824.html ). The architect was J H Martindale of Carlisle. For more information about the hall, see Skelton Parish Council http://www.skeltonparish.co.uk/skelvh.php .
