Newman Passage links Rathbone Street, once Upper Rathbone Place, and in the distance, with Newman Street, which is behind the photographer, with a mews cul-de-sac leading off to the south. At the end of the passageway it goes under the Newman Arms public house. Followers of the TV series Minder might recognise this location from the closing title sequence, where Arthur and Terry are photographed holding up a leaning over lamp post here and then walking out of the alley. Although the lamp post has been removed it is recognisably the same location with the current bollard just visible in the far right of the first photograph and the door frontages on both sides visible in the second photograph. There is currently a clip of these sequences on YouTube.
