The street was famously portrayed in a 1930s painting by L S Lowry https://gerryco23.wordpress.com/2012/07/28/lowry-in-stockport/ The old terrace was demolished in the 1960s. Johnnie Johnson Housing restored the "Lowry Steps" creating a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom homes http://www.jjhousing.co.uk/all-properties/property/crowther-street--260/?pid=260&ps_page=5&pdfview=1 and now new housing is being built on the left hand side as part of the NuVu Covent Garden development by Your Housing Group and Bardsley Construction.
