Built in 1867, the beautiful honey coloured snecked rubble Old Church is located in the heart of the town centre. Originally a spire was planned for the church, but the church we see today with its small tower fits in very well with the rest of Cumnock town centre. It is a Category B listed building. https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200359954-old-cumnock-old-church-cumnock-and-new-cumnock-ward#.W8jDX_ZFw5s The lovely mercat cross in the foreground dates from 1703 and has been repaired three times in 1778, 1944 and 1955. The shaft is square in section with splayed angles; it supports a square stone sundial and ball finial. Its only drawback are the rather ugly modern steps upon which the cross now stands.
