Seen across the river is the end of a complex of buildings. Those nearest the river are mill workers cottages. Further away is Lower Factory Mill, also called the Blanket Factory. This was the latest and largest of the woollen mill sites established in the early 19th century. It ceased production in around 1880 and had a variety of uses before being mostly converted to housing in the early 20th century.
