Former Belstead House school, Park Road, Aldeburgh

Belstead House (the building seen at the centre of the photograph) was a girls' school in the late 19th and early 20th century whose headmistress, Griselda Hervey, was determined to give her pupils a broad and progressive education: an example of this is the fact that in December 1923 Béla Bartók performed a solo piano concert here for the pupils.
