- After opening in March 1942, the airfield at RAF Kinnell began as a satellite to RAF Tealing, and later in 1944 to RAF Montrose. The early airfield control tower was designed as a fighter satellite station watch office, that was later given a 2 storey extension. The airfield was used mainly by Operational Training Units (OTU), and from 1942 it was also used for night flying training. Image
