The old Lingholm Kitchen Garden was Beatrix Potter’s inspiration for Mr McGregor’s garden in her book The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Beatrix Potter’s family spent many holidays here in the Lingholm Estate during the years 1885-1907. While here she also found inspiration to write her Squirrel Nutkin story.
