The image taken from the Irish Republic shows the 80km/hr speed limit sign just inside the Irish border. At the border the unnamed road crosses a culverted stream to join the Dundalk Road. In September 1972 an Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders' officer was killed in an ambush at Drummuckavall and again in 1975 the South Armagh Brigade of PIRA mounted an attack from the Republic on a static OP sited on Drummuckavall hill which overlooks the Border crossing killing 3 members of a Royal Regiment of Fusiliers section. The attack resulted in the siting of a permanent British Army Watchtower on Drummuckavall Hill to deter any further border incursions. But, even after the establishment of the Watch Tower, the Drummackavall sector remained "lively" until the late 1990s. http://www.borderroadmemories.com/search-border-crossings/individual-crossing/?id=bc035
