Barker Tower is sited on the west side of the River Ouse at Lendal Bridge. The bridge was built in 1863 and before it was built a ferry crossed the river at this point. Barker Tower was built in 1300, originally for defence. It is also known as tower the North Street Postern. The tower has been used as a mortuary and recently as a shop.
