Opened in 1968 following the amalgamation of St Patrick's and St Gabriel's schools, and originally named Cardinal Newman School. In December 2015 Newman Catholic School was severely damaged by flood water up to 7ft deep (photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4760952 ). Staff and students were relocated to temporary premises at the former site of Pennine Way Primary School in Harraby (photo http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4868375 ). Having also suffered badly in the floods of January 2005, it was decided to build a new school elsewhere. This will be at Upperby, on the southern edge of town http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/Ceremony-to-mark-new-beginning-for-Carlisle-school-ravaged-by-floods-087a44b8-7d5c-49cd-8cc4-74c377497a86-ds .
