Border County Ride, towards Brieredge

The Border County Ride is a 100 mile, waymarked horseride around Northumberland National Park and Kielder Forest Park. The ride follows the green track in the photo, leading to the gate in the middle distance. This area is littered with mine remains, marked on the 1:25000 Explorer map as "Area of Disused Pits". I think these must be bell pits, an early form of open cast mining.
