This building was constructed just outside the West India Dock Company's gates in 1807 to the designs of Thomas Morris, then the Resident Engineer. It was originally an Excise Office, but has had a chequered history of uses since. The Ordnance Survey map edition of 1869 - 1875 shows it as the Jamaica Tavern, and it continued in use in this guise until the 1920s. Latterly it was an Indian restaurant, but is currently, in September 2018, the headquarters building of Sir Jack Petchey's property company. The building now has an address in Hertsmere Road, but in practice this was the south-eastern end of the West India Dock Road. The building is Grade II Listed, as are separately the contemporary white gate piers and railings in front.
