These are some of the remains of a Benedictine Abbey at the entrance to The Hotel Bedford’s car park from the A386. The abbey’s riches were seized by the Henry VIII and the abbey destroyed during the dissolution of the monasteries. However, the Duke of Bedford of the time used architect Jeffry Wyatt - of Windsor Castle’s transformation fame - to create a hotel on this site which was completed in 1822.
