Today, this is to the rear of Cornwall House which stands on Monnow Street. This dates from 1752 and is built in a Queen Anne style. Today the garden, a double burgage in width, is mainly lawn and is enclosed, originally the garden would run back to Chippenham Park and the River Wye. At the time the house belonged to Henry de Bergh, the Duke of Beaufort’s agent. In the early 20th century the house was the home of Cornish doctor resulting in the house becoming named Cornwall House. The house is a member of the Historic Houses Association and is open a few days each year to the public.
