A pub known as the Wine Coopers Arms once stood here, at 13 Distillery Street when this road was still a road. Now the location, actually the whole area here, is called Golding Place. During WW2 it was damaged by enemy action in one of the Baedeker Raids, on 27/29 April 1942 and closed in September 1962. The Britannia took its place in 1975, after the nearby Sandringham Arms pub had been demolished in 1973. It lasted until January 2000 after which it closed and was boarded up, and later converted to accommodation. The pub's name board is still in place after all this time.
