One of Currie's most famous sons, the mountaineer Dougal Haston, began his climbing career scrambling on the 'Currie Wa's' and climbing on Caerketton in the Pentland Hills. His autobiography, In High Places (Cassell 1972) includes a photograph of a climber on the buttress of a nearby railway bridge over the Water of Leith. See Image for the memorial to Haston in Currie.
